Summary

East Hoke Middle is a public middle school in Raeford, North Carolina, serving 777 students in grades 6-8. The school is part of the Hoke County Schools district, which is ranked 167 out of 242 districts in the state.

East Hoke Middle has consistently underperformed compared to the district and state in academic proficiency. In the 2024-2025 school year, the school's math proficiency rates ranged from 23.5% for 8th grade to 39.8% for 6th grade, while the district and state had higher rates. The school also serves a high percentage of economically disadvantaged students, with 98.2% qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch. This places East Hoke Middle in the bottom 20% of middle schools in North Carolina, with a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Comparing East Hoke Middle to nearby schools reveals that while the Hoke County Schools district as a whole struggles, there are examples of higher-performing schools in the region. For instance, John R. Griffin Middle and Seventy-First Classical Middle in the Cumberland County Schools district demonstrate significantly higher academic performance. This suggests that factors beyond just the district may be contributing to the challenges faced by East Hoke Middle.

Open Quote "HOUSTON....WE HAVE A PROBLEM!" What is going on at this school? Teachers are leaving, unqualified and inexperienced people filling in for the teachers that left. Kids are running all over the place, the question I have...WHO IS MINDING THE STORE HERE? This school is in dire straits and it is a cluster muster here. A school full of women who are having personal issues with one another and there are a few men to provide leadership for the males. If you are thinking about moving here? Think Twice or Run to Another Place outside Hoke County. There is Spring Hill Middle School 10 miles away in Scotland County is a better fit for your child. Until they change upper echelon leadership do not bring your child to this school. Don't walk away.....RUN! Close Quote

Open Quote If I could I would have submitted zero stars for this school. The educational environment is so poor and it begins with the administration. The principal is unethical and thinks nothing of pulling a teacher out of class to ask for personal favors. Students are bullied on a daily basis by other students as well as their teachers and nothing is ever done about it. Yes, this school made AYP but it is because they teach to the test. Your child will be better served if they attend a private school or if you homeschool them yourself. You may have moved to Hoke county because of cheap housing...but the "Joke" about Hoke is that the schools are terrible...and EHMS has to be the worst! Run as far away as you can from this school! BE WARNED!! Close Quote
