Southern Guilford Middle is a public school in Greensboro, NC, serving roughly 620 students in grades 6 through 8 within Guilford County Schools. Academically, Southern Guilford trails its district and the state by wide margins in every core subject. A particularly bright spot is the school's English Learner (ELL) program. These students ranked in the 62nd percentile statewide, far outperforming the school's overall 16th-percentile ranking. This suggests the school has developed effective supports for ELL students that could potentially be applied more broadly. In contrast, chronic absenteeism is a major barrier to success, with over 40% of students missing enough school to be considered chronically absent—nearly double the state average.
