Summary

Central Davidson Middle is a public middle school located in Lexington, North Carolina, serving grades 6-8 with a total enrollment of 662 students. The school is part of the Davidson County Schools district, which is ranked 90 out of 242 school districts in North Carolina and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Academically, Central Davidson Middle has consistently performed better than the state average in EOG (End-of-Grade) test scores for Mathematics, Reading, and Science across all grade levels. For example, in the 2024-2025 school year, the school's 6th-grade Mathematics proficiency rate was 76.5%, compared to the state average of 57.2%. The school's 8th-grade Science proficiency rate was 59.4%, higher than the state average of 60.1%. Additionally, the school has shown strong performance for specific student subgroups, such as African American, Hispanic, and Multi-racial students, who have ranked in the top 25% of North Carolina middle schools in recent years.

However, the school has experienced a declining performance trend in recent years, with its statewide ranking dropping from 321 out of 737 middle schools in 2018-2019 to 268 out of 773 middle schools in 2024-2025. This declining trend is also reflected in the school's EOG test scores, which have generally decreased across grade levels and subject areas over the past few years. The increasing percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch at Central Davidson Middle, from 41.96% in 2021-2022 to 63.6% in 2023-2024, suggests a growing population of students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds, which may be contributing to the school's declining academic performance.

Open Quote Only three weeks into the 2014-2015 school year things are not looking good. The office staff is not friendly or helpfull. This school is extremely over crowed.I have already had to call to set up a conference due to the fact that my daughter who just started sixth grade told me yesterday that her math teacher flew into a screaming rage because some of the students did not turn in a paper. This teacher also went and got the other teachers in that block so they could also have a say in this matter. My daughter did have her paper however she was treated as thou she did not.I am extremely disappointed and very angry at the thought of what should be a role model for these children acting in such a manner. This school talks to the students and sends home papers for my daughter and myself to sign on anti bulling but a lot of the teachers do not lead by example.
