Summary

Jay M Robinson High is a traditional public high school in Concord, NC, enrolling about 1,210 students in grades 9–12 as part of Cabarrus County Schools. The district itself is well regarded — ranked in the top third of North Carolina districts with 4 stars — but Jay M Robinson trails that mark: its most recent rating placed it at the 43rd percentile statewide (2 stars). About half of its students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch (51.8%), putting it in a similar socioeconomic range as Central Cabarrus High and West Cabarrus High, while nearby Cox Mill High School and Hickory Ridge High serve far fewer low-income students.

Academically, Jay M Robinson's End-of-Course proficiency rates sit below the district average in every subject. In the latest reporting year, Biology proficiency was 58.0% versus 67.3% district-wide, English II was 59.3% versus 70.9%, and Math III was 61.5% versus 78.8%. State averages were 58.5%, 64.6%, and 68.9%, respectively, so English II and Math III also fall short of the statewide mark. Math III has been a persistent weak spot over multiple years, and the school trails both Central Cabarrus High and West Cabarrus High in that subject. Much stronger results are seen at Cox Mill High School and Hickory Ridge High, where proficiency often exceeds 80%.

On the positive side, Jay M Robinson graduates 92.3% of its students, nearly matching the district rate and beating the state's 88.8%. The school also earns above-average statewide rankings for several groups of students who often face the largest barriers, including English language learners and students receiving special education services. Chronic absenteeism, however, may be holding the school back. At 22.8%, it is higher than the district's 18.0% and far above Cox Mill High School (14.0%) and Hickory Ridge High (16.0%), though similar to Central Cabarrus High (25.2%) and West Cabarrus High (25.5%). Reducing missed instructional time, especially in math, and building on the school's strong graduation rate appear to be the clearest opportunities for improvement.

Open Quote Robinson was the top HS years ago. It is still tops imo. My neice will graduate from Robinson in 2031!! The area that RHS is in will be getting a new state of the art feeder Middle School next year. Housing prices in the area have increased by as much as 120 over the past 16months. J.M Robinson High School is set to rise to the top once again in Cabarrus County!! Close Quote

Open Quote They keep bringing one incompetent principle after another. Maybe because the large number of kids who disrespect the rules and the teachers contribute to more rules which are applied with the double standards, which in turn chocks the life out of good students, which leads to new principles who think they can manage with more strict rules without dialogues with teachers, students and parents.
