Oxford Preparatory is a K-12 academy-style school in Oxford, NC, that serves about 869 students and operates as its own Oxford Preparatory School district, much like an independent charter. Academically, Oxford is a high performer: all 18 of its most recent state EOG/EOC proficiency rates beat state averages, with average proficiency near 83% compared with about 59% statewide.

The school’s biggest distinction is high school End-of-Course results, which average roughly 96% proficiency across Biology, English II, Math I, and Math III. Math I results are especially strong at 89.8% versus 42.1% statewide; Henderson Collegiate posted 75%, Falls Lake Academy 43.5%, and Vance Charter School just 11.8%. Math III reached 100% and Biology 98.5%. Math is Oxford’s clear signature subject, from 100% proficiency in 6th-grade math to 91.2% in 7th grade. Reading is also above the state—about 73% proficiency in grades 3–8 versus roughly 56% statewide—but less dominant. Fourth-grade reading dipped to 58%, barely above the state’s 57.7% and below Henderson Collegiate (77.7%) and Vance Charter (77.9%). That looks like a one-year cohort anomaly after two previous years near 74–80%.

Beyond test scores, Oxford reports very low chronic absenteeism: 7.9% for 2023–2024, well under the statewide 24.9% and lower than Henderson Collegiate (15.8%) and Vance Charter (11.1%). Its graduation rate stands at 94.4%, above the state’s 88.8% and above Henderson Collegiate (87.6%), Granville Academy (86.7%), and Falls Lake Academy’s last reported 88.2%. Two other local alternative schools, Phoenix Academy and Granville Academy, serve very different student populations, so the strongest peer comparisons are the charters above. Overall, Oxford Prep is a stable, high-achieving school—especially in high school math and science—with the caveat that a few grade-level scores fluctuate from year to year.
