Summary

Ingomar Attendance Center is a rural PK-12 public school in New Albany, MS, serving 678 students as part of the Union County School District — one of four "attendance centers" in the county offering a single-campus education from pre-K through 12th grade. Enrollment is similar to Myrtle Attendance Center (698) and West Union Attendance Center (660), and about half of its students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, a lower rate than any other school in the district. The school's real story, though, is how its academic profile shifts between middle school and high school.

The elementary and middle grades are a genuine bright spot. Ingomar posted some of the highest state test scores in the region in 2025-26, led by a 91.7% proficiency rate in 5th-grade math — roughly 42 points above the state average and far ahead of every nearby school, including East Union Attendance Center (63.5%), Myrtle Attendance Center (74.4%), and Blue Mountain High School (50.0%). Sixth-grade math (86.4%) and ELA (84.1%) were also the best among all comparison schools, and 8th-grade science (78.8%) outpaced every neighboring school. Ingomar's teaching is especially effective in upper elementary and middle school, particularly in math and science.

The challenge comes in high school. English II end-of-course proficiency fell to 42.9% in 2025-26 — the lowest among all six surrounding schools and 17 points below the district average — despite strong middle-school reading scores. The graduation rate has slipped to 87.2%, below both the district (89.1%) and state (89.2%) averages, while chronic absenteeism has nearly tripled since 2018-19, climbing from 7.8% to 21.9%. These trends are likely connected: students who miss school are far less likely to master course content or graduate on time. Ingomar's top priority should be building a bridge from its excellent middle-school foundation to high-school success by tackling absenteeism and providing targeted literacy support. If those gaps close, Ingomar has the potential to be one of the top-performing rural schools in northern Mississippi.
