Summary

East Union Attendance Center is a PK-12 public school in Blue Springs, MS, serving 950 students and making it by far the largest school in the rural Union County School District. With about two-thirds of students (67.3%) qualifying for free/reduced lunch, the school serves a predominantly economically disadvantaged population. Despite these challenges, East Union posts a 93.5% graduation rate, above both the district (89.1%) and state (89.2%) averages. Chronic absenteeism (18.4%) is also better than the state average (23.9%). High school End-of-Course results are brighter, with English II and U.S. History recently beating district averages, though these scores can swing sharply from year to year. Compared to West Union Attendance Center, East Union trails on many test scores but posts a higher graduation rate (93.5% vs. 85.0%).

Perhaps the most notable story is East Union's strong graduation outcomes despite economic disadvantage. Ingomar Attendance Center, for example, has only 50% free/reduced lunch eligibility yet graduates students at a lower rate (87.2%), while East Union graduates 93.5% despite 67.3% eligibility. One concern is chronic absenteeism, which has climbed from 11.1% in 2020-21 to 18.4% in 2023-24, though it remains below state and district levels. For parents, East Union offers a large, full-spectrum PK-12 environment where students generally beat state averages and are guided steadily to graduation. Families should keep an eye on middle school math and ELA support, as well as the relatively high student-teacher ratio.
