Summary

Spring Creek Elementary is a PK–5 school with 445 students in the Northfield Public School District, located at 1400 Maple St in Northfield, MN, one of three elementary schools in the district. It ranks 138th of 869 Minnesota elementary schools (84th percentile, 4 stars). In 2025-2026, 66.8% of students met proficiency in math, 63.3% in reading, and 37.1% in science—well above state averages. Math is the standout: 21.9 points above the state and 7.9 points above the district, while reading and science are closer to district levels. The student-to-teacher ratio improved to 11.8, one of the better ratios among nearby schools. It peaked at 87th percentile in 2023-2024.

Compared with its Northfield peers, Bridgewater Elementary and Greenvale Park Elementary, Spring Creek Elementary is competitive but no longer the leader. The three schools are within 2.9 percentage points in every subject. Bridgewater Elementary has the highest math and science; Greenvale Park Elementary has the highest reading; Spring Creek Elementary is in the middle and now ranks third of the three. Outside the district, Spring Creek Elementary ranks above Nerstrand Charter School, Prairie Creek Community School, Randolph Elementary, Farmington Elementary, Surad Academy Elementary, Roosevelt Early Learning Center, and Lincoln Elementary. Prairie Creek Community School is the exception, posting the highest science proficiency at 41.4%.

Two trends are worth watching. First, science fell from about 54% to 37%, but the district and state fell at the same time, so this looks like a district-wide assessment change rather than a Spring Creek-specific problem. Math has slipped from a 2023-2024 peak of 72.31% to 66.8%. Second, the school’s effectiveness with low-income students dropped from the 87th to the 54th percentile, and special education fell from 82nd to 67th. The gender pattern also flipped: male students are now at the 90th percentile, female students at the 71st. By grade, third-grade math lags the district (63.5% vs. 70.6%), while fifth grade is the strongest, with 71.4% reading proficiency. Overall, Spring Creek remains a strong, stable school, but it is being caught by nearby peers while some subgroup results soften.
