Summary

Century Middle School is a grades 6–8 school in Lakeville, Minnesota, serving about 950 students in Lakeville Area Schools — the largest of the district's three comprehensive middle schools, and one located in a comparatively low-poverty community where roughly 13.6% of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, the lowest rate among nearby schools.

Academically, Century is one of Minnesota's strongest middle schools: in 2025–26 it ranked 33rd of 546 middle schools statewide (94th percentile, 5 stars), with proficiency above both district and state averages in math and reading, and it has now spent ten straight reporting years at or above the 90th percentile. Among ten nearby schools, Century places first in all three tested subjects — ahead of Kenwood Trail Middle School and McGuire Middle in its own district, and ahead of Scott Highlands Middle, GOA School of Logic and Valley Middle School of STEM. Those results are driven largely by an exceptionally strong 8th grade, where 75.4% of students met the math standard and 76.3% met the reading standard — roughly 33 and 26 points above the state. Sixth and 7th grade results are solid but closer to district averages.

Science looks low in absolute terms but is actually a relative strength: state 8th grade science proficiency is only 16.7%, while Century's 28.4% is the highest of any nearby school — about 1.7 times the state rate. The school appears to trail its district in science only because district figures blend in high school results; against the district's own 8th grade rate of 22.2%, Century is ahead by more than 6 points, and its rebound last year was far steeper than the district's. Two things to watch: the student-to-teacher ratio has climbed three years running (16.6, then 17.8, then 18.8), now the highest of the three Lakeville middle schools, and special education results have slipped three years in a row, though they remain above average.
