Summary

Levi P. Dodge Middle School (LPD) is a grades 6–8 school in Farmington, Minnesota, serving 692 students as the smaller of the two middle schools in the Farmington Public School District. Its campus sits less than a mile from Robert Boeckman Middle School and within a few miles of much larger, higher-rated middle schools in Lakeville Area Schools and Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan.

The school's academic standing has slipped considerably, and the drop accelerated recently. LPD ranked in the 74th percentile of Minnesota middle schools in 2017–18 but fell to the 34th percentile in 2025–26, including a 119-place decline in a single year — the largest one-year move in its recent history. The most striking contrast is with Boeckman, 0.86 miles away: as recently as 2023–24, LPD ranked ahead of Boeckman (60th vs. 49th percentile), and the two were roughly even in 2024–25. In 2025–26, LPD fell to 34 while Boeckman rose to 52.

In 2025–26, 26.8% of LPD students were proficient in math, 38.6% in reading, and 9.2% in science — below its own district in every subject and 10 to 18 points below the state. Science is the weakest area (16 points under the state), though a statewide test change also pushed scores down everywhere. Reading, once a relative strength above both district and state, is now a deficit. Eighth-grade reading nearly matches the district, and the school's African American students rank in the 65th percentile statewide, a relative strength. But math at all three grade levels, 6th- and 7th-grade reading, and science all trail district norms.
