Summary

Lakeview Elementary is a K–5 school with 588 students in Lakeville, Minnesota, part of Lakeville Area Schools, a suburban district just south of the Twin Cities. It currently ranks 50th of 869 Minnesota elementary schools — the top 6 percent — and holds a 5-star rating, the same level it last reached in 2018–2019 after several weaker years.

Lakeview beats every other elementary school in its Lakeville peer group in all three tested subjects: math (72.3%), reading (71.7%) and science (39.8%). Nearby Cherry View Elementary ranks 75th statewide and Lake Marion Elementary, less than a mile away, ranks 92nd. The gap grows outside the district: the Farmington schools nearby, Meadowview Elementary (#470) and Akin Road Elementary (#605), trail by roughly 30 points in math. Even more telling, Lakeview posts these results with the group's second-highest poverty rate, ahead of lower-poverty Highview Elementary School, which also has a larger student–teacher ratio.

Every student group measured performs well: low-income students rank in the 96th percentile statewide — higher than the school overall — and special education students in the 88th. Fifth-grade reading is the standout, at 81.6%, roughly 27 points above the state average and the highest figure in the entire dataset. Weaknesses are relative, not absolute. Science sits 32 points below the school's own math and reading scores, though it still leads all local peers. Math also eased slightly this year (74.4% to 72.3%) after driving much of the recent rank jump, so it is worth watching.

The teachers at this school are phenomenal. They not only care about the students' academics, they also clearly care about their personal growth. I have had three kids attend here and between them we have had 11 different classroom teachers and I can honestly say that we loved each teacher, even though they had different strengths. They also have great specialists, especially the music teacher, Janice Differding, who works her tail off outside of normal classroom time to produce a 5th grade musical each year. Great school.
