Campbell-Tintah Elementary

Campbell-Tintah Elementary is a very small PK–6 school in rural Campbell, MN, serving 66 students as part of Campbell-Tintah Public Schools.

The school’s recent improvement is real but should be read with caution. After several years in the bottom quartile—19th percentile in 2022–2023, 21st in 2023–2024, and 21st in 2024–2025—it climbed to the 50th percentile in 2025–2026 with 2 stars. Its district is ranked 222 of 458 in Minnesota, at the 52nd percentile with 3 stars. In 2025–2026, all-grade math was 42.1%, above the district’s 37.1% but below the state’s 44.9%, while reading was 34.2%, above the district’s 31.7% but below the state’s 48.6%. Science was suppressed, so it is unknown; historically it has been low, and the district’s 2025–2026 science result was 11.1%, below the state’s 25.5%. The school’s free/reduced lunch rate was 27.27% in 2024–2025, lower than nearby schools, and its student/teacher ratio was 11, better than Breckenridge’s 12.4 and Adams’ 12.8.

Compared with nearby schools, the picture is mixed. Breckenridge Elementary is the closest PK–6 peer: Campbell-Tintah has the higher rank percentile (50 vs. 37), higher math (42.1% vs. 37.1%), lower poverty indicator (27.27% vs. 53.21%), and lower student/teacher ratio (11 vs. 12.4). However, Breckenridge has higher reading (39.1% vs. 34.2%), higher science (35.1%; Campbell-Tintah’s is suppressed), and much stronger 6th grade reading (57.7% vs. 35.7%). Campbell-Tintah’s clearest strengths are 3rd grade math at 58.3% and 6th grade math at 50%, both above state figures. Reading is more mixed: 3rd grade was 41.7%, below the state but above Breckenridge’s 23.3%, while 4th and 5th grade reading were suppressed. Adams Elementary posts stronger academics (67% math, 46.3% reading) but serves only grades 1–3 and is nearly 20 miles away, while Lincoln School serves PK–1 and has no test data. Suppressed scores should be treated as unknown, not as zero, and small class sizes make all percentages volatile.
