Summary:

South Washington County Schools covers 27 schools — 16 elementary, 4 middle, and 7 high school programs, including alternative, online, and transition options — serving students across the southeast Twin Cities metro area of Minnesota. The district ranks 144th out of 458 Minnesota districts, in the 69th percentile with 3 stars, and its average scores beat the state in math, reading, and science. The catch is that results vary enormously from school to school.

At the top, Valley Crossing Elementary and Liberty Ridge Elementary are among the best elementary schools in the state, with math proficiency of 78.2% and 77.2%. Lake Middle School is the clear middle school standout, ranking 24th of 546 statewide with 66.5% in math and 64.8% in reading. Among high schools, Woodbury High School and East Ridge High School lead: East Ridge graduates 94.5% of students with a 0.5% dropout rate, while Woodbury posts the strongest science score at 49.9%. Also notable: Newport Elementary has the area's highest low-income rate (54.55%) yet second-highest elementary science score, and Armstrong Elementary jumped from the 45th to the 61st percentile in one year.

Watch areas include middle school science, where the average is just 18.0% versus 25.5% statewide, with Cottage Grove Middle School at 14.2%. Park High School trails district and state in all three subjects (27.7% math, 28.5% reading), and Pullman Elementary is the only 1-star school. South Washington Alternative High School and SoWashCo Online 9-12 serve different student populations, so their lower graduation rates should be read with that context.
