Heather Hills stands out dramatically from nearby schools in academic performance. In the 2025-2026 school year, it ranks 4th out of 864 elementary schools statewide, while the next highest-ranked nearby school, Yorktown Elementary, ranks 265th. The school also has an exceptionally low chronic absenteeism rate of 6.9%, far below the district average of 30.2% and every other nearby school, which range from 14.5% at Whitehall Elementary to 32.0% at Northview Elementary. This consistency of excellence has been sustained for nearly a decade, with the school ranking in the top 100 statewide every year since 2015-2016.

Additionally, Heather Hills spends less per student ($17,495) than many lower-performing neighbors, such as Pointer Ridge Elementary ($20,812) and High Bridge Elementary ($22,182), indicating highly effective resource management. This school is a clear "bright spot" in its district, performing at a level comparable to top schools in the higher-ranked Anne Arundel County Public Schools district, such as Crofton Woods Elementary.

Open Quote Overall excellent staff in a TAG magnet school that's able to challenge student's to achieve their potential. Some communication problems with particular teachers, but the school administration is excellent in working with parents and teachers. Unfortunately, the school is too small to meet the demand for TAG placement and the neighborhood is not designed to accommodate even the traffic flow associated with current enrollment. However, even with these minor problems this is still an excellent school. Close Quote
