Summary

Lawrence High School is a comprehensive 9–12 school serving 3,453 students on North Parish Road in Lawrence, Massachusetts, making it by far the largest high school in the area — bigger than Andover High and North Andover High combined.

Academically, the school ranks 312th of 353 Massachusetts high schools (12th percentile) in 2025–26 — an improvement from the 5th percentile two years earlier, but one that came largely from changes in the comparison pool, not from rising scores. Tenth-grade MCAS proficiency was 15.7% in ELA, 13.11% in math, and 10.91% in science, against statewide rates of 45.48%, 43.73%, and 40.5%. Andover High, about 2.3 miles away, posts 62.37% ELA and 73.77% math, and Greater Lawrence Regional Vocational Technical — drawing from the same region — posts 38.89% ELA with a 99.5% graduation rate. Lawrence High graduates 86.7% of students, above its district's 82.2%, but its dropout rate nearly doubled in one year, from 4.8% to 9.0%, the highest in five years.

There are real bright spots. Physics end-of-course proficiency (54.81%) beats the state's 46.58% and every nearby comprehensive high school except Andover. Per-pupil spending ($16,935) is higher than Methuen High and North Andover High, and the 13.6 student–teacher ratio is in line with peers. Special education students, however, have remained at the 5th percentile with 0 stars for three straight years — the most persistent concern in the data.
