Bradford Elementary

Summary:

Bradford Elementary is a public elementary school serving 508 students in grades K-4 in the Haverhill School District in Massachusetts. The school has a diverse student population, with 38.39% White, 5.12% African American, 53.15% Hispanic, 1.38% Asian, and 1.97% two or more races.

Bradford Elementary's academic performance, as measured by MCAS Next Generation test scores, is generally lower than the state average and the nearby schools in the Haverhill district. In 2022-2023, only 30.39% of Bradford Elementary students were proficient or better in English Language Arts, compared to the state average of 42.29% and the Haverhill district average of 28.05%. Similarly, in Mathematics, only 25.41% of Bradford Elementary students were proficient or better, compared to the state average of 40.6% and the Haverhill district average of 25.23%. The school has consistently ranked in the bottom half of Massachusetts elementary schools, with a ranking of 702 out of 928 schools in 2022-2023, placing it in the bottom 25% of elementary schools in the state.

When compared to other nearby schools in the Haverhill district, Bradford Elementary generally performs worse on MCAS tests. For example, in 2022-2023, Silver Hill Elementary School had a higher percentage of students proficient or better in both English Language Arts (35.91%) and Mathematics (38.46%), compared to Bradford Elementary. The data suggests that there may be opportunities for improvement, as Bradford Elementary's Hispanic students and students who were tested remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic performed better than the school's overall averages, indicating that targeted interventions and support for these populations could potentially help raise the school's overall academic performance.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Spectacular school! Administration is excellent and the teachers are so dedicated! Three of my children are in this school and each of them love it! My oldest is entering fifth grade and is already sad he only has one year left! The after school activities that are offered are terrific! Has to be the best school in all of Haverhill and surrounding towns! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
