Summary

Hill View Montessori Charter Public School is an elementary school serving 304 students in grades K-8 in Haverhill, Massachusetts. The school is part of the Hill View Montessori Charter Public district, which is ranked 295 out of 348 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Despite being a public charter school, Hill View Montessori has consistently ranked in the bottom quartile of Massachusetts elementary schools, maintaining a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger over the past 10 years. The school's proficiency rates on the MCAS Next Generation assessments are significantly below the state averages across English Language Arts, Math, and Science. For example, the school's projected 2024-2025 ELA proficiency rate of 29.17% is well below the state average of 41.53%. Additionally, the school has a relatively high student-teacher ratio of 13.3, compared to nearby schools like Caleb Dustin Hunking, Comprehensive Grammar, and Golden Hill, which have lower ratios ranging from 9.8 to 12.8.

The consistent underperformance and broad-based challenges across student subgroups suggest that Hill View Montessori faces systemic issues that have not been adequately addressed. Despite spending $15,701 per student, which is higher than the state average, the school has struggled to improve student outcomes and close achievement gaps. Given the persistent and widespread underperformance, Hill View Montessori may require significant intervention and support to drive sustainable improvement and better serve its diverse student population.

Open Quote In the past the discipline wasn't good and they have had issues keeping teachers. There is a new executive director and headmaster so things are definitely on the upswing. My oldest child is graduating from HS after attending HVM from 5th-8th grade and had no trouble transitioning and is a straight A student who got above average on all of her MCAS. They do not teach to the MCAS so it can look bad on state testing but they say they catch up by the time they graduate 8th grade. My children who went since K have scored average on their MCAS for the most part. Close Quote

Open Quote Love, love, love this school. Wonderful dedicated teachers, parents that go above and beyond, students whom excel. Look at the latest MCAS within the Haverhill School District. A great mix of Montessori and core education. As asset to Haverhill. Close Quote

Open Quote HVM is one of the top elementary/middle school options to the residents of Haverhill. It is a unique blend of Montessori techniques while still following the core educational requirements (MCAS). They have a new building in Ward Hill area of Haverhill and a very dedicated teaching staff. I would not hesitate to recommend the school to others. Close Quote
