Summary:

Plymouth, a coastal community south of Boston, serves about 6,731 students across 12 public schools — eight elementary, two middle, and two high schools — within a district rated 182 of 351 statewide, at the 48th percentile with 2 stars.

The elementary tier is the strongest. Manomet Elementary leads with 57.52% ELA, 53.98% math, and 62.16% science, ranking at the 77th percentile. West Elementary (69th percentile) posts the top elementary science score at 65.45%, and Nathaniel Morton Elementary (64th percentile) pairs 52.12% ELA with 50% science. Federal Furnace School stands out for science at 63.33%, well above the district's 37.55% and the state's 40.98%. At the other end, Hedge has the lowest elementary ELA at 33.33%. The two high schools diverge sharply: Plymouth North High has stronger scores and an improving rank (51st percentile), while Plymouth South High posts the better graduation rate, 97.2%, and a dropout rate of 2.4%.

As a group, elementary schools beat district and state averages in ELA, math, and science. Middle and high school math and science are the clearest weaknesses: middle science averages about 27.7% and middle math about 32.3%, far below the state's 41.11% math and 40.98% science, and high school math, science, and Biology sit well under state levels despite above-state ELA. Grade-level gaps inside schools are large — South Elementary ranges from 52.58% in 3rd-grade math to 27.47% in 5th, and Cold Spring falls from 62.07% in 3rd-grade ELA to 29.73% in 5th. Spending and class size do not track simply with results: Manomet has the highest student-teacher ratio at 12.5 but the best elementary scores, while Hedge, at 9.3, has the lowest ELA. Free/reduced-lunch data is not reported for any school here, and spending figures date to 2020–2021, so both should be treated as limited context. Rank trends also vary, with Indian Brook slipping from the 57th to the 46th percentile while Hedge rose from 35th to 44th.
