Summerfield Elementary consistently underperforms compared to the Caddo Parish and Louisiana state averages in both Mathematics and English Language Arts (ELA) proficiency across all grade levels. For example, in the 2024-2025 school year, Summerfield's Mathematics proficiency rate for all grades was 39%, compared to 50% for Caddo Parish and 60% for the state. Similarly, in ELA, Summerfield's proficiency rate was 48%, compared to 61% for Caddo Parish and 70% for the state. The school also has high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 21.9% to 28.2% over the past few years, which is significantly higher than the state average. Additionally, Summerfield has a high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 56.92% to 74.03% over the past few years, indicating a high proportion of students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds.

Summerfield's performance is generally lower than the nearby schools in the Caddo Parish district, such as Walnut Hill Elementary/Middle School, Keithville Elementary/Middle School, and Forest Hill Elementary School, which have higher test scores, lower chronic absenteeism rates, and lower percentages of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch. Interestingly, Linwood Public Charter School, which is located outside the Caddo Parish district, has similar performance to Summerfield Elementary in terms of test scores and student demographics, suggesting that the challenges faced by Summerfield may not be unique to the district but rather reflect broader educational challenges in the region.

Open Quote I have some concerns about this School. I made some Christmas Treats for my Grandson's Kindergarten Class and when he did not receive one, his Mother asked if I dropped them off....supposedly...the Teacher took it upon herself to give them only to the "good kids" which very much upsets me because I made them for ALL the Kids! Open Quote I have had three children to attend this school and this year 2014 has been the worst school year for us. I'm currently looking at my options because I don't won't my child to attend this school another year because of the lack leadership skills that the current principal (Skinner) has at this time. I'm not surprised by the ratings this school received. Close Quote
