Summary

Westwood Elementary School is a public elementary school serving grades PK-5 in Shreveport, Louisiana, with 298 students enrolled. Unfortunately, this school has consistently ranked in the bottom 10-15% of Louisiana elementary schools over the past decade, earning a 0 or 1 out of 5 star rating from SchoolDigger.

Westwood Elementary's student subgroups, including females, males, African Americans, special education students, and low socioeconomic status students, all rank in the bottom 10-20% of their respective groups statewide. The school's proficiency rates on the LEAP assessments are significantly below the Caddo Parish and Louisiana state averages across all grades and subjects, with only 27% proficiency in math and 36% in ELA in 2024-2025, compared to 60% and 70% statewide, respectively. Additionally, Westwood Elementary has had chronic absenteeism rates ranging from 21.9% to 28.2% over the past few years, much higher than the state average.

Interestingly, Westwood Elementary's performance is significantly worse than the nearby schools in the Caddo Parish district, such as Midway Professional Development Center, Caddo Heights Math/Science Elementary, and Southern Hills Elementary, all of which have higher proficiency rates, lower chronic absenteeism, and better overall rankings. Despite being a low-performing school for many years, Westwood Elementary has not shown any meaningful improvement in its academic outcomes or rankings, suggesting a need for targeted interventions and support to address the root causes of the school's challenges.
