Mountain View Elementary in Hyden, Leslie County, serves pre-K through grade 8 and enrolls 435 students. Its 2025–26 test results show that performance varies by subject and grade: science averaged 57% across tested grades, compared with 34% statewide and 44% in Leslie County; writing averaged 30%, compared with 42% statewide and 38% in the district. The clearest contrast is that science is a standout, while eighth-grade writing is a particular concern: 26% of students were proficient, below all nearby reported results, which ranged from 33% to 59%.

Results are not uniformly strong across grades or compared with nearby schools.
