Summary

Big Creek Elementary serves 136 students in prekindergarten through grade 6 in Oneida, in Clay County. Its 2025–26 results show a sharp difference between grade levels: third-grade reading proficiency was 75%, while sixth-grade reading was 45%. The most important concern is that sixth-grade reading and math were well behind nearby schools and the district: reading was 37 points below the district and about 36 points below the nearby Clay County average, while math was 19 points below the district.

Big Creek is strongest in editing and mechanics: 82% were proficient, compared with 48% statewide, 80% in the Clay County district, and a 74% average among nearby Clay County schools. Writing was also far above the state rate, at 71% versus 35%, though just below the district’s 72% and nearby schools’ 77% average. Chronic absenteeism remained high at 43.8% in 2025–26, 20.3 points above the state rate.
