Summary

Kammerer Middle is a public middle school in Louisville, Kentucky, serving 678 students in grades 6-8. The school is part of the Jefferson County school district, which is ranked 140 out of 157 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger. Kammerer Middle has consistently been ranked in the bottom half of Kentucky middle schools, with a current ranking of 219 out of 320 schools and a 2-star rating.

Kammerer Middle's test scores are consistently below the Jefferson County and Kentucky state averages across all subject areas and grade levels. For example, in 2024-2025, the school's proficiency rates in mathematics ranged from 34-38%, compared to 28-31% for the district and 40-43% for the state. The school also has higher dropout rates (0.6-2.6%) and chronic absenteeism (25-38.1%) compared to the district and state averages. Additionally, Kammerer Middle has a high percentage of students (43.51-58.41%) receiving free or reduced-price lunch, indicating a relatively low socioeconomic status compared to the surrounding schools.

Interestingly, Kammerer Middle is located in close proximity to several higher-performing middle schools, such as Barret Traditional Middle and North Oldham Middle School, which consistently rank in the top 20% of Kentucky middle schools. This suggests that the low performance of Kammerer Middle is not solely due to its geographic location. The school's enrollment has also decreased from 896 students in 2021-2022 to 678 students in 2024-2025, which may impact the school's funding and resources, further exacerbating the challenges it faces in improving student outcomes.

Open Quote this school needs teachers that do not give out a crap ton of work. when i go home i am incredibly stressed because i have tons of social studies work that i have to finish becuase we get a minimum of 3 assignments a day and get 1.5 days to do them and it is very annoying. we are done with this school. we are all worried becuase one the corona virus is going around and the school being this dirty does not help. we are assigned homework that does not even get graded we get at least 10 or 12 pages of math homework and 4 days to do it. all in all i dont like it and the teachers here dont take care of the major issue of bullying. Open Quote I went here 6 years ago for only 5-6 months and it was by far the worst school I have ever gone to. I came from great Chicago schools and ended up in something I could only compare to a jail. Students walk on tape in the hallways and are not allowed access to bathrooms. Do not send your child here.
