Summary

Eastern High is a 1,790-student, grades 9–12 public high school in Middletown, in the suburban Jefferson County area. Its latest KSA results show it doing better than the district in all six tested subjects, but below the state in five. The clearest concern is chronic absenteeism: 38% of students were chronically absent in 2025–26, compared with 32% in the district and 24% statewide.

Writing is the school’s clearest strength, while science is its weakest subject compared with nearby schools, the district and the state. Eastern’s writing proficiency was 43%—11 points above the district and 4 below the state—and second-highest among nearby schools with reported results, behind South Oldham High School. In science, Eastern scored 12%, below the district’s 16%, the state’s 23% and the 15% average for nearby traditional high schools with reported results. Overall, Eastern was above the district in all six subjects but below the state in five.
