Summary:
Wellington has six public schools—four elementary schools, one middle school and one high school—serving students across elementary, middle and high school grades. In 2025–26, average proficiency was below the state in all three tested subjects: 40% in ELA versus 46% statewide, 31% in math versus 41%, and 31% in science versus 38%; the largest area-wide shortfall is in math, at 10 points below the state.
Washington Elementary leads in all-grades ELA and math, with 51% and 54% proficient; it is 1 point ahead of the next-highest ELA result and 12 points ahead in math. Eisenhower Elementary leads science at 45%, 9 points ahead of Washington. At the lower end, Wellington High School has the lowest ELA and science results, at 25% and 24%, while Kennedy Elementary is lowest in math at 17%. SchoolDigger gives Washington a 60th-percentile statewide ranking and three stars; the other schools’ percentiles range from 14 to 36.
Recent trends offer important context: the six-school ELA and math averages rose by less than 1 point from the prior year, while state results rose by 1 point in ELA and 2 in math, widening both gaps. Science fell by 9 points across the five schools with comparable figures, compared with a 3-point state decline. Individual results vary: Washington’s science score fell 19 points, while Wellington Middle School gained 6 points in ELA. Wellington Middle also reported 72% chronic absenteeism, versus 18% statewide. Among elementary schools, Lincoln and Kennedy have similar enrollment, ratios (8.4 and 9.6 students per teacher) and free/reduced-lunch rates (87% and 86%), yet Lincoln’s math result is 24 points higher. These figures describe different school experiences without explaining why results differ.
