Summary:
The seven schools in Kingman–Norwich include two elementary schools, two middle schools, and three high schools, including the Unified School District 331 Virtual School; six have 2025–26 test results. Across those six, science is the area’s relative strength: the average was 44% proficient, compared with 38% statewide, while averages in ELA and math were 44% and 40%, respectively, just below state results of 46% and 41%. The clearest overall finding is that results vary considerably from school to school, rather than showing one consistent area-wide pattern.
Norwich Elementary School led all-grades ELA at 56% and math at 47%. At the other end, Kingman High had the lowest ELA result at 28%—28 points below Norwich Elementary—while Kingman Elementary School had the lowest math result at 32%, 15 points below Norwich Elementary. In science, Kingman Middle School led at 65%, while Norwich Middle School had 27%, a 38-point gap. Because schools cover different grade spans, all-grades comparisons are not perfectly like-for-like.
Recent changes are mixed: the six-school ELA average fell by 3 points from 2024–25 to 2025–26, moving from above the state result to below it, while math was nearly unchanged and science results diverged sharply by school. Kingman Middle’s science score rose 23 points, even as Norwich Middle’s fell 19 points. SchoolDigger’s statewide ranking also rose substantially for Kingman Middle, from the 21st to the 69th percentile, and for Norwich High, from the 68th to the 84th; Kingman High and Norwich Middle moved down. Norwich High pairs a 100% reported graduation rate with 29% chronic absenteeism, compared with 18% statewide. School size and student–teacher ratios do not sort results into a simple pattern: Kingman Middle’s ratio was 10.3, close to Norwich Middle’s 9.4, despite their very different science scores.
