Caney Valley

Caney Valley, Kansas, has two schools serving prekindergarten through grade 12: Lincoln Memorial Elementary serves PK–6 and has 458 students, while Caney Valley High serves grades 7–12 and has 335 students. The clearest overall finding is that Lincoln Memorial leads in all three 2025–26 all-grades subjects, with its biggest advantage over the high school in science.

Lincoln Memorial is the standout in the supplied all-grades results: 63% were proficient in ELA, 61% in math, and 82% in science, compared with 49%, 39%, and 33% at Caney Valley High—gaps of 14, 21, and 48 points. Lincoln Memorial also exceeded the state in each subject, particularly science, by 44 points; the high school was above the state in ELA by 4 points but below it in math by 2 and science by 5. In the grade-level results, Lincoln Memorial’s fifth-grade math and science were 33 and 36 points above their state benchmarks, while the high school’s seventh-grade ELA was 20 points above its benchmark; its eighth-grade results were below state results in all three subjects. Because the schools serve different grades and share no tested grades, these school-level results are not same-grade comparisons.

The most notable change is the high school’s science result, which dropped 34 points, from 67% in 2024–25 to 33% in 2025–26; the state result fell 3 points. SchoolDigger rankings show Lincoln Memorial holding steady at the 88th percentile in the last two reported years, while Caney Valley High declined from the 77th to the 60th percentile over three years. Other measures offer a different picture: the high school reported a 100% graduation rate, versus 90% statewide, and a lower student-teacher ratio (12.1 compared with 18.6). Chronic absenteeism was 18% at the high school and 1% at Lincoln Memorial. These figures describe differences between the schools; they do not explain what caused the outcomes.
