Elk Valley

Elk Valley’s three schools serve students from prekindergarten through grade 12: Rocket Online Schools (ROCS) serves K–12, Elk Valley Elementary serves PK–5, and Elk Valley High School serves grades 6–12. The clearest shared-grade comparison is grade 5: the two schools average 25% proficiency in ELA, 6% in math, and 32% in science, respectively 26, 39, and 14 points below state results. Math is the largest shared shortfall.

Elk Valley Elementary stands out in grade-5 science, with 43% proficient—22 points above ROCS and 3 points below the state. It also leads ROCS by 6 points in ELA and 1 point in math. In the reported all-grades results, the elementary school has the highest ELA (37%) and science (43%), while the high school has the highest math result (24%); the high school has the lowest reported ELA (12%) and science (10%), and ROCS the lowest math (5%). These all-grades figures combine different grade spans, so they are not a like-for-like school ranking. Chronic absenteeism is highest at the high school: 40%, compared with 24% at ROCS, 18% at the elementary school, and 18% statewide.

Recent test-score trends are mixed at the elementary school and sharply weaker at the high school: elementary ELA rose 7 points from the prior year, while math fell 7; high-school ELA fell 21 points, math 3, and science 40. SchoolDigger’s high-school ranking history is a contrasting bright spot: it reports the school at the 74th percentile with four stars in 2023–2024, versus the 6th percentile and zero stars in 2014–2015. Reported student–teacher ratios are 13.3 at the elementary school, 7.8 at the high school, and 349.2 at ROCS. The elementary and high schools also report free/reduced-lunch rates of 61% and 65%, respectively; these are context, not an explanation of school results.
