Cherryvale

Three schools in Cherryvale serve students from prekindergarten through grade 12: Lincoln Central Elementary (268 students, PK–6), Thayer Schools (137 students, PK–8), and Cherryvale Senior / Middle School (277 students, grades 7–12). Their results vary substantially, so families comparing options should look beyond area-wide averages and consider the grades their child would attend. The clearest overall finding is that Thayer leads in all three subjects, while Cherryvale Senior / Middle is below the state figure in all three.

Thayer has the strongest 2025–26 all-grades results: 58% in ELA, 57% in math, and 64% in science, compared with state figures of 46%, 41%, and 38%. Its lead over Lincoln Central ranges from 7 points in science to 17 points in math. Cherryvale Senior / Middle is lowest, at 34% in ELA, 30% in math, and 30% in science; those results are 12, 11, and 8 points below the state, respectively. SchoolDigger ranks Thayer at the 74th percentile with 4 stars, Lincoln Central at the 47th percentile with 2 stars, and Cherryvale at the 22nd percentile with 1 star.

Recent results show different trajectories: Thayer rose in all three subjects from 2024–25 to 2025–26, by 6 points in ELA, 13 in math, and 15 in science. Lincoln Central’s ELA and math dipped by 1 and 2 points, while science rose by 5. Cherryvale’s science fell by 18 points and ELA by 6, although math improved by 3. Grade-level results also offer important exceptions: Lincoln Central’s third-grade ELA was 74%, versus Thayer’s 25% and the state’s 52%; in eighth grade, however, Thayer outscored Cherryvale in all three subjects. Thayer also had the lowest chronic absenteeism (7%, compared with 13% at Lincoln and 17% at Cherryvale). Student-teacher ratios are similar—11.6 at Thayer, 11.4 at Lincoln, and 11.0 at Cherryvale—and free/reduced-lunch rates range from 58% to 66%; these are useful context, not explanations for score differences.
