Summary:
Arkansas City has six elementary schools, all serving PK–5, and their 2025–26 proficiency rates were below Kansas averages when the schools are considered as a group. The schools averaged 37% in ELA, 30% in math and 27% in science, compared with state rates of 46%, 41% and 38%. The shortfalls were 9 points in ELA and 11 points in both math and science. Most importantly, C 4 Elementary was the only school above the state in all three subjects, substantially lifting the area averages.
C 4 Elementary leads the group, with 56% proficiency in ELA, 48% in math and 50% in science. Its lead over the next-highest school was 11 points in ELA, 8 in math and 18 in science. Jefferson Elementary is the consistent runner-up, at 45% in ELA, 40% in math and 32% in science. At the other end, Frances Willard Elementary had the lowest results in every subject: 24% in ELA, 17% in math and 17% in science.
Area results were nearly unchanged in ELA from 2024–25 to 2025–26, rose 2 points in math and fell 2 points in science. School trends differ: I X L Elementary’s ELA rate dropped 12 points, while C 4 Elementary’s science rate fell 13 points but remained the area’s highest. SchoolDigger’s statewide percentile also diverged: C 4 rose from 45 to 62, while I X L fell from 18 to 8. Other measures do not provide a simple shortcut for comparing results: Roosevelt Elementary has the lowest student–teacher ratio, 11.9, but Jefferson Elementary scores higher in all three subjects with a ratio of 15.5. C 4’s free/reduced-lunch rate is 44%, compared with an average of 75% at the other five schools; Jefferson also performs strongly despite a rate of 72%.
