Knightstown Intermediate School is a public middle school in Knightstown, Indiana, serving grades 4–8 in the C A Beard Memorial School Corp with 387 students enrolled. In 2025–26 it ranked 221st out of 486 Indiana middle schools — 55th percentile, 3 stars — which is stronger than its district, ranked 205th out of 374 districts in the 45th percentile with 2 stars. Its ranking has fluctuated: 28th percentile in 2018–19, the low-to-mid 50s through 2023–24, a dip to 39th in 2024–25, then a rebound to 55th in 2025–26 — encouraging, though not yet fully steady.

ELA and science are the relative bright spots. Overall ELA was 40.21% proficient, slightly above the district's 39.47%, and grade 5 ELA (42.68%) edged past the state. Science was 44.17% overall, matching the district and above state in grades 4 and 6. Math is the clearest weak spot: 35.39% overall, below the district's 38.46%, with the difficulty concentrated in grades 7 and 8 (25% and 23.44% proficient, each roughly 10–11 points below state). Grade 5 math (42.68%) was slightly above state. Math also slipped from 36.91% the prior year while science fell from 50.99% to 44.17%, even as ELA jumped from 30.55% to 40.21%.

Chronic absenteeism was 17.4% in 2024–25, above the state's 16.7% and above most nearby schools, though far below the 34.6% recorded in 2021–22. Pendleton Heights Middle School (1.4%) and Eastern Hancock Middle School (9.2%) have much lower rates. Eastern Hancock is a telling peer: it ranks almost identically (217th, 55th percentile, 3 stars) but posts higher math (39.93%) and far lower absenteeism, despite lower per-student spending ($9,866 vs. $11,568) and a higher student-teacher ratio. Knightstown's own resources are comparatively favorable — $11,568 per student and a 13.9 student-teacher ratio — yet results remain mid-pack. The bottom line: a mid-performing school with solid ELA and science, and clear room to grow in upper-grade math and attendance.
