Westwood Elementary School is the clear standout: 86th percentile, 4 stars, the lowest chronic absenteeism in the district at 3.8%, the lowest free/reduced lunch rate at 36.33%, and the top elementary proficiency in ELA (60.16%), math (69.53%), and science (43.90%) — all while spending the least per student ($10,440). James Whitcomb Riley Elementary School is also solid at 56th percentile with 3 stars, above the district in all three core subjects. At the other end, Parker Elementary School (14th percentile, 1 star) and Eastwood Elementary School (11th percentile, 1 star) have the district's highest absenteeism (27.5% and 20.7%) and lowest proficiency.

New Castle Middle School is a weak point, below the district in ELA, math, and science, with 8th grade math at 15.54% versus the state's 34.2%. New Castle High School has a strong 93.4% graduation rate, but SAT ELA (42.41%) and SAT Math (19.62%) trail the state. New Castle Schools at the Hoosier Youth Challenge Academy is a small special-setting high school with a 56.7% graduation rate. Note that Wilbur Wright Elementary School outperforms the district in all three core subjects despite a 72.46% free/reduced lunch rate, showing results are not fixed by circumstances.
