Liberty Middle School in Covington, GA, serves approximately 894 students in grades 6-8 as part of the Newton County School District, and it currently ranks in the bottom quartile of Georgia middle schools (10th percentile statewide).

When compared to nearby Veterans Memorial Middle School (just 1.88 miles away), Liberty lags in nearly every subject area, though Liberty's Algebra I proficiency actually exceeded Veterans Memorial's rate in 2024-2025. The gap is even starker when compared to Union Grove Middle in Henry County, which achieves roughly triple Liberty's proficiency rates in 6th grade math and 8th grade science, and has a chronic absenteeism rate of just 6.8%. While the school has increased spending by nearly 30% over three years, test scores have not shown corresponding improvement.
