Summary

Stockbridge High School in Stockbridge, GA, serves approximately 1,456 students in grades 9-12 within the Henry County school district. The school currently ranks in the 33rd percentile of Georgia high schools, a modest improvement over recent years, and serves a predominantly low-income student body, with 67.5% of students qualifying for free or reduced lunch.

The most significant challenge facing Stockbridge High is chronic absenteeism. At 38.6%, the school's rate is nearly double the district average (19.6%) and more than double the state average (17.7%). This pattern has persisted for five years and is the highest among nearby Henry County high schools—compare this to Union Grove High at just 9.7%. This attendance issue closely tracks with academic struggles: Algebra I proficiency sits at only 12.3%, far below the state average of 48.1%, and the graduation rate of 81.7%, while improved by 6 points, still trails the district (89.8%) and state (87.2%) averages. The dropout rate of 3.2% also exceeds both district and state figures.

However, there are notable bright spots. Stockbridge's U.S. History proficiency rate of 38.8% actually exceeds both the district (33.3%) and state (38.5%) averages, representing a 16-point gain over three years. The school also earns 3 stars for both African American students (53rd percentile statewide) and English Language Learners (58th percentile), showing strong relative success with these populations. Per-student spending has risen to $12,943—higher than better-performing peers like Dutchtown High ($12,356) and Union Grove High ($12,504)—raising questions about resource allocation. While the school still lags Eagle's Landing High School in math and Woodland High School in graduation rate, the two consecutive years of ranking improvement and the dramatic U.S. History gains suggest that targeted interventions may be starting to take hold.

Open Quote This school is a poor school because the kids there pick on other kids and nothing gets done about it. Also the staff gossips with the children and the staff are not very professional at all. The teachers don't work very well with the students to help them with work. I was not pleased with this school at all. Close Quote

Open Quote Many times a school's excellence is based on parent participation and excellent students. My experience was excellent at Stockbridge. My student is a straight A student who chose to take what the school had to offer and make the best of it instead of lamenting over what the school lacks. Close Quote
