Brookwood's academic performance is a clear standout. In math, 71.5% of 3rd graders, 74.3% of 4th graders, and 76.2% of 5th graders are proficient—roughly 20 to 30 percentage points above state averages. Fifth-grade science proficiency is similarly strong at 77.4%. Brookwood also excels with specific student groups, ranking in the 99th percentile statewide for African American students and in the 94th–95th percentiles for Hispanic students and English Language Learners. The school achieves these results while serving a diverse population where about 47% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch—a higher poverty rate than many higher-spending, lower-performing neighbors.

Beyond test scores, Brookwood stands out for its exceptionally low chronic absenteeism rate of just 5.0%, which is one-third of the district average (15.0%) and has been cut in half over the past three years. This is notably better than nearby Britt Elementary School (14.0%) and Knight Elementary School. The school also operates efficiently, spending $12,889 per student—about 20–25% less than several lower-performing schools like Cedar Hill Elementary School ($16,419) and Britt ($17,094)—while achieving top-10% results. Brookwood is part of a remarkable cluster of high-performing schools in the area, including Craig Elementary School, Gwin Oaks Elementary School, and Head Elementary School, all ranking in the top 10–15% of Georgia schools. For parents, Brookwood offers a proven combination of strong academics, excellent attendance, and effective use of resources.

Open Quote The method set to send children as young as Kindergarten to the front office under the guise of poor behavior for not completing a class assignment places a stigma in the child's mind that they are a bad child. This happens on a daily basis. Missing additional class instruction is the outcome. This is not helpful to educating a child. Close Quote
