Summary

Vickery Mill Elementary in Roswell, GA, is a PK-5 school serving 407 students in the Fulton County School District, a highly-rated district known for strong academic outcomes.

Vickery Mill is a school on the rise. After years of hovering in the mid-40s percentile statewide, it has jumped to the 64th percentile for the 2025-2026 school year—its best ranking in recent data. This improvement comes alongside a dramatic drop in chronic absenteeism, from 17.2% in 2023-2024 to just 5.8% now, which is far better than the district (16.6%) and state (17.7%) averages. The school also stands out for its investment in students: it spends $26,966 per student and maintains a 10.3:1 student-teacher ratio, the lowest among nearby schools. For comparison, Sweet Apple Elementary spends $17,660 per student, and Roswell North Elementary spends $14,532. This resource-heavy approach appears to be paying off, especially for Hispanic students, who rank in the 78th percentile statewide—a standout strength.

Academically, the picture is mixed but encouraging. In 2025-2026, 3rd and 4th-grade math proficiency (51% and 55.1%) exceeds state averages, while 5th-grade math (45.1%) and science (43.5%) sit right at or slightly below. It's important to note that English Language Arts scores are not yet available; they will be released in December. What makes Vickery Mill's progress particularly notable is the context: 100% of its students qualify for free or reduced lunch, a far higher rate than nearby schools like Sweet Apple (8.6%) or Roswell North (19.5%). Despite this, the school is achieving a 64th percentile rank, demonstrating real effectiveness in supporting its students. It occupies a unique middle ground—not the top scorer in the area, but a school with clear momentum, strong investment, and a trajectory worth watching.

Open Quote This school has terrible parent to staff communication !
My child was in 2 bus accidents with this school needing medical attention and they were not going to communicate it had my child not had a cell phone. They actually sent a letter out stating everything was ok and no one was hurt.

They also instead of voicing and discussing personal parental concerns they communicate with DEFCS and make you and your family have to deal with child services. As opposed to trying effective communication between school and home ! The principal is leaving, which leads me to believe even more bad things about the staff. The school is great only if you are Hispanic. DO NOT MOVE IN THIS DISTRICT.

The classrooms teach more English to the non speaking than the time on educational studies. My child always complained that the teachers were mean and always yelling at her, and she also frequently complained of bullying by groups of kids that did not speak English. Close Quote

Open Quote We've had a great experience at VME. Our youngest son started last year during the school's inaugural year. We have two years of fantastic, experienced teachers. I think it will take a while for the overall test scores to see the benefit of the school's efforts but we are happy and our son is coming out of his shell. Additionally, the PTA is pretty amazing for a new school. The Dad's group is a visible, energetic group and the PTA is welcoming of the school's diverse population. It's truly a place where you feel community. Close Quote
