Summary

Hembree Springs Elementary School in Roswell, GA, serves approximately 536 students in Pre-K through 5th grade within the Fulton County School District, and it has earned a reputation as a solid, steadily improving school in a diverse neighborhood.

One of the most impressive things about Hembree Springs is its exceptional attendance record. Only 5.0% of students are chronically absent, which is dramatically better than the district average of 16.6% and the state average of 17.7%. This rate has improved by 66% over the past four years, and it's competitive with some of the most affluent schools in the area, like Sweet Apple Elementary School (2.9%) and Crabapple Crossing Elementary School (1.8%). The school also stands out for its strong science scores—65.9% of 5th graders are proficient, well above the district (55.8%) and state (44.2%). In math, 3rd graders shine with 70.7% proficiency, though scores do dip by 5th grade to 55.3%, which is still above the state average. The school's overall state ranking has climbed from the 72nd percentile in 2022-2023 to the 84th percentile today, a notable upward trend.

What makes this progress particularly noteworthy is that Hembree Springs serves a student body where about 55% qualify for free or reduced lunch—a much higher percentage than nearby high-performing schools like Alpharetta Elementary School (8.6%) or Roswell North Elementary School (19.5%). The school achieves strong results despite this economic diversity, and it maintains a favorable student-teacher ratio of 11.9:1. While the school performs well overall, there are areas for continued focus, including supporting Hispanic students and boosting upper-grade math scores. Still, with a decade of consistent 4-star ratings and a clear upward trajectory, Hembree Springs is a reliably effective choice for families.

Open Quote This is the second year my son attends this school, and I am very proud with the involvement and dedication of the teachers and parents, and leadership of the principal. My son is being well challenged. The small groups in class help each kids learn at their own rhythm, so they get the attention they need, and those who needs more challenges are being provided with them. The teachers go beyond to make sure all the students are benefiting to the max, each at their own level and stance. It is a great school environment to be in! Close Quote

Open Quote I was devistated when it was reccomended that I pull my child out of preschool and place him in special needs preK at HSE. What a blessing it turned out to be. The priniciple's background is in special needs and she clearly has a place in heart for these children. He is now in the 4th grade and what a long way he has come! He is now in advance classes. Each school year my neighbors all ask each other "who does your child have this year?" and the response is always " she's great" It's amzing how from day one Ms. Raju knows the parents and children by name. I wish I had her talent. Many parents with special need kids end up placing them in private school because they can't seem to get their child's needs met in public. Myself I can't imagine anyone doing a better job than Ms. Raju and her staff. Close Quote
