Summary

Palmetto Elementary School in Palmetto, GA, is a PK-5 school in the Fulton County district serving 436 students, all of whom qualify for free or reduced lunch, and it has shown a remarkable upward trajectory from a low point in the mid-2010s to a 3-star rating and the 53rd percentile statewide for 2025-2026.

One of the school’s standout strengths is its effectiveness with its African American students, who rank in the 75th percentile statewide—a 4-star rating that outpaces the school’s overall performance and signals targeted support that works well for this group. Another major win is attendance: chronic absenteeism has plummeted from 32.7% in 2021-2022 to just 7.8% in 2025-2026, which is less than half the district average (16.6%) and state average (17.7%). This dramatic improvement suggests a more stable, supportive environment and likely fuels the academic gains. The school also invests heavily in its students, spending $21,962 per pupil—well above nearby schools like Liberty Point Elementary and Campbell Elementary—which helps maintain a low student-teacher ratio of 12.8:1.

Academically, the picture is mixed but trending positive. In 2025-2026, 3rd and 4th grade math proficiency (48.6% and 52.6%) is at or above state averages, but 5th grade math (33.3%) and science (31.3%) lag behind state levels (44.1% and 44.2%), suggesting a challenge in sustaining growth in upper grades. Compared to neighbors, Palmetto outperforms Campbell Elementary and Chattahoochee Hills Charter School in overall rank, though it trails Liberty Point and E.C. West Elementary. Its chronic absenteeism rate, however, is the best in this group. Schools in neighboring Fayette County and Coweta County, like Arbor Springs Elementary and Canongate Elementary, rank in the top 10% with much lower poverty rates, highlighting the challenges Palmetto faces—and making its progress all the more notable.

Open Quote This school is very unorganized. The principal doesn’t know what she’s doing and depend on the staff to make solid decisions. The teachers have poor communication as well. Also Be award of the teachers treating the kids like middle school children. I had a serious issue with Mrs Daniels for u felt she was sneaky. I sent in large amounts of things for the classroom only to know e kept them for herself and didn’t share with the other teacher. Also my student was detained and I wasn’t given a meeting or anything... HORRIBLE STAFF!!! Close Quote
