Summary

North Forsyth High School in Cumming, GA, serves approximately 2,151 students in grades 9–12 and is part of the highly rated Forsyth County School District, which ranks in the top 5% of districts statewide. The school holds a solid 4-star rating and ranks 81st out of 455 Georgia high schools, placing it in the 82nd percentile.

One of the most impressive things about North Forsyth is how well it supports students who often need extra help. The school ranks in the top 12% statewide for Special Education students and in the top 25% for English Language Learners—both stronger than its overall ranking. This means the school has built effective support systems for diverse learners. North Forsyth also shines in Biology, with 65.9% of students scoring proficient, well above the state average of 47.2%. In U.S. History, the school actually beats the district average (53.1% vs. 51.6%), which is unusual for a school in this district. Another standout: chronic absenteeism has dropped dramatically from 28% to just 9.2% over four years—a huge win that shows successful efforts to get kids to school. The school also invests more per student ($12,360) and has smaller class sizes (16.5:1) than nearby Lambert High School and South Forsyth High School.

That said, there are clear challenges. Algebra I is a persistent weak spot—only 40.9% of students are proficient, compared to 71.6% districtwide and over 70% at Lambert and South Forsyth. The graduation rate of 94.4% is above the state average (87.2%) but trails the district's 97% and is the second-lowest among Forsyth County's comprehensive high schools. Compared to top-tier peers like Lambert (ranked 10th) and South Forsyth (11th), North Forsyth sits in the middle tier, alongside West Forsyth High School. The school is also seeing a demographic shift, with its free/reduced lunch rate rising from 14.5% to 22.9% in two years. Overall, North Forsyth is a dependable school with real strengths in supporting vulnerable students—and clear room for growth in math.

Open Quote North is a well above average High School that clearly prepares students for college. I have two children that have attended the school. My oldest is now a Freshman in college and has exempted numerous courses required of first year students based on the academic preparation and experience received while a student here. The ability to attend school without a great deal of crime and/or drama from other students definitely contributed to that success. Great extra curricular activities sports, band drama, etc. I highly recommend the school if you are looking for a great place to allow your child to grow without the high crime and violence found elsewhere in ATL public schools.
