Summary

Chamblee Middle School is a high-performing public school in Chamblee, GA, serving 1,018 students in grades 6-8 within the DeKalb County School District.

Chamblee Middle School consistently ranks among the top middle schools in Georgia, earning a 5-star rating and placing in the 93rd percentile statewide for the 2025-2026 school year. This places it well ahead of nearby schools like Tucker Middle School (38th percentile), Henderson Middle School (41st percentile), and Sequoyah Middle School (14th percentile). Even Ridgeview Charter School in Fulton County, the next highest-performing nearby option, ranks lower at the 80th percentile. The school's math and science proficiency rates are particularly impressive—8th-grade science proficiency is 71.9%, compared to just 24.6% for the district and 29.7% for the state. Additionally, 97.5% of students taking the Algebra I End-of-Course exam are proficient, a rate nearly 50 percentage points higher than the state average.

One of the most striking differentiators is the school's remarkably low chronic absenteeism rate of just 9.3%, compared to rates nearly three times higher at nearby schools like Druid Hills Middle School and Peachtree Middle School. This high engagement likely contributes to the school's consistent year-over-year growth—8th-grade math proficiency has climbed from 63.7% to 76.6% over the past three years. The school also earns strong ratings across student subgroups, including 5-star ratings for White, Male, and Special Education students. While the school excels broadly, proficiency rates for Hispanic students (49th percentile) and English Language Learners (28th percentile) suggest areas for continued focus. Notably, Chamblee achieves these results while spending $16,621 per student—less than many lower-performing peers—demonstrating highly effective teaching and resource allocation.

Open Quote Was headed up now dropping like it was few years back new influx of students got it up to a 9 same teachers that were at the 3 prior now have managed to fall behind. Needs overhaul in teachers bring in some from highly recognized Mabry, Milton. And Decatur to lead new direction that could easily be a 9 has the best student make up in area. Principal great. Some cleaning out and catch upto other middle schools before it is to late. Close Quote

Open Quote I have known many community members with students at CMS, and all their opinions have been overwhelmingly positive. This school is a great asset to the community. The students, parents, and staff are always involved in the community and giving back. Someone us doing something right. Great school! Close Quote

Open Quote My son is in his first year at CMS and he is in the Gifted program. We are underwhelmed. He rarely has any homework and he quickly learned that minimal effort gets straight A's. It's been very disappointing overall since he always liked school until he got to CMS. Close Quote
