Summary

Grovetown High School serves approximately 2,256 students in grades 9-12 in Grovetown, GA, within the highly regarded Columbia County district—ranked in the top 8% of Georgia districts. The school currently holds a 3-star rating and ranks 157th out of 455 Georgia high schools, a modest improvement from last year's 176th place. However, this represents a shift from its earlier 4-star status (2015-2019), when it ranked as high as 63rd in the state. Today, Grovetown sits in the middle of its district, with Greenbrier High School (33rd), Evans High School (65th), and Lakeside High School (108th) all ranking higher, while Harlem High School (165th) sits just below.

Grovetown's standout strength is its work with English Language Learner (ELL) students, ranking 21st statewide (88th percentile) with a 4-star rating—placing it among the top 12% of Georgia high schools in this area. Hispanic students also perform well, ranking in the 72nd percentile. In Biology, 53.3% of students scored proficient, beating the state average by 6 points. The biggest challenge is Algebra I, where only 37.1% of students scored proficient versus the district's 54.6%—a persistent gap of 17-27 points over several years. The school's graduation rate of 89.1% exceeds the state average but trails the district's 93.0%. Chronic absenteeism (17.8%) matches the state average but runs nearly 5 points above the district, though it has dropped dramatically from 30.2% in 2021-2022.

Compared to nearby Richmond County schools like Butler High School or Glenn Hills High School—where proficiency rates often fall in the single digits and graduation rates dip below 70%—Grovetown offers a dramatically different educational experience. The school also operates efficiently, spending the least per student ($10,077) among Columbia County high schools while achieving comparable outcomes to Harlem High School, which spends more. With continued focus on math support and attendance, Grovetown has clear potential to regain its former 4-star standing.

Open Quote Grovetown High is the most diverse school on Columbia county. The staff is awesome and they really care for the students. Military friendly and the kids are just better behaved than at the other schools we've observed. Our son is in sports and we stay busy in the community, Grovetown is where it's at! Close Quote
