Summary

Grovetown Elementary School serves approximately 908 students in grades PK-5 in Grovetown, GA, and is part of the highly-rated Columbia County district, which ranks in the 92nd percentile statewide.

Grovetown Elementary holds a solid 3-star rating and ranks in the 62nd percentile of Georgia elementary schools—a strong showing given that about 67% of its students qualify for free or reduced lunch, a figure notably higher than many nearby district peers. The school has climbed steadily from a 2-star rating a decade ago and has maintained 3-star status for seven consecutive years. One of its standout strengths is performance with African American and Hispanic students, where it ranks in the 75th and 70th percentiles statewide respectively—both above its overall ranking. Fifth grade math is another bright spot, with 55.3% proficiency, exceeding the state average by more than 11 points. The school has also made meaningful progress on attendance, cutting chronic absenteeism from 21.3% to 16.8% over several years, now below the state average. Per-student spending of $12,414 is efficient compared to peers like Brookwood Elementary ($15,445) and Lewiston Elementary ($13,768), even while serving a higher-needs population.

While Grovetown outperforms state averages in several subjects, it trails its Columbia County counterparts—for example, 4th grade math proficiency is 41.8% versus a 70.8% district average. This gap is largely tied to demographics, as nearby schools like Lewiston serve far fewer economically disadvantaged students. Compared to Richmond County schools such as Barton Chapel Elementary and Sue Reynolds Elementary, Grovetown ranks far higher. The main area for attention is special education, where the school ranks in the 35th percentile. Science scores have also been volatile, swinging from 29.9% to 59.5% in recent years. Overall, Grovetown is a solid, improving school that serves a diverse student body effectively, with room to grow in early-grade math and special education support.

Open Quote I only give one start because 0 isn’t an option.
The school allows students to be insulted and mistreated and sometimes it’s the staff picking at a child. I can’t imagine knowingly mistreating a child with autism but they seemed to enjoy it. Close Quote
