Summary

Belair Elementary School in Augusta, GA, serves approximately 675 students in grades PK-5 as part of the Richmond County school district, and it has been steadily climbing in statewide rankings—from the 17th percentile in 2022-2023 to the 30th percentile in 2025-2026—even while its district overall sits in the 11th percentile.

One of the most striking things about Belair is how well it performs compared to nearby schools in the same district. In 3rd grade math, for example, 45.4% of Belair students scored proficient, which is nearly double the district average of 24.6% and dramatically higher than nearby schools like Copeland Elementary (15.1%), Glenn Hills Elementary (18.5%), and Barton Chapel Elementary (6.1%). Belair also stands out for its remarkably low chronic absenteeism rate of just 11.0%, compared to 30.3% for the district and 17.7% statewide. Nearby schools like Bayvale Elementary (37.2%) and Jamestown Elementary (19.6%) have much higher rates. Belair even matches or beats some high-performing Columbia County schools on attendance, like Westmont Elementary (12.4%) and Martinez Elementary (12.2%). The school also shows strong results in Algebra I acceleration, with 56.5% proficiency compared to just 12% for the district.

Belair is clearly on an upward trajectory, with meaningful year-over-year gains in 3rd and 5th grade math and science. However, there are still challenges: proficiency tends to decline as students move from 3rd to 5th grade, and there is a notable gender gap, with male students ranking in the 39th percentile statewide versus the 21st percentile for female students. While Belair still trails Columbia County schools like Brookwood Elementary (75.3% in 4th grade math vs. Belair's 30.5%), it is achieving these results with a high-poverty population (82.4% free/reduced lunch) and spending less per student ($14,521) than many lower-performing Richmond County peers. For parents, Belair looks like a school that is making the most of its resources and building momentum, even within a challenging district context.

Open Quote I have 4 children that attend this school. . I have 3 in elementary school and 1 in middle school. Ms. Brown and Ms McKenzie( 3 rd grade teachers) are the best teachers I've encountered. You can tell they care about the future of their students. While it is a beautiful school, they need a better staff within the middle school portion. Just this year, one of my children is on the 3rd teacher and its the beginning of the 3rd quarter.. The staff in the front office are all wonderful, however they are overworked and need more help!
