Summary

Garden City Elementary School is a public elementary school serving 580 students in grades PK-5 in Garden City, Georgia, which is part of the Savannah-Chatham County School District.

While the school's academic performance, as measured by the Georgia Milestones Assessments, is generally lower than the district and state averages across all grade levels and subject areas, there are some bright spots. For example, the school's 4th grade Mathematics proficiency rate of 57.4% is higher than the district's 41.8% and the state's 49%. However, the school's 3rd grade English Language Arts proficiency of 24.3% lags behind the district's 26.2% and the state's 34.9%. The school's overall ranking has fluctuated between 661 out of 1,234 Georgia elementary schools in 2018-2019 to 915 out of 1,214 in 2020-2021, and its SchoolDigger rating has ranged from 1 to 2 stars out of 5.

Interestingly, the nearby Esther F. Garrison School for the Arts, which is also part of the Savannah-Chatham County School District, significantly outperforms Garden City Elementary School and other nearby schools in academic achievement across all grade levels and subject areas. This suggests that factors beyond just district-level resources and policies, such as school-specific programs and practices, may play a significant role in student outcomes. Additionally, Garden City Elementary School's high percentage of students from low-income families, as indicated by the free/reduced lunch rate, likely contributes to the school's lower academic performance compared to the state and district averages, highlighting the need for targeted interventions and additional resources to support these students.

Open Quote The teacher to student ratio is more like 25 to 1. The principal is racist to whites and hispanics. some of the teachers try to push parent of "troubled children" to have there kids "evaluated" and put on meds because they have no backbone and dont know how to set limits or handle children. Worst school in the area! There is a rampant bullying problem towards minority kids. white being the minority in the school. teachers and staff seem to not want to do anything about it at all.
