Summary

Howard University Middle School of Mathematics and Science PCS is a public charter middle school in Washington, DC, serving 253 students in grades 6-8. While the school has a relatively high per-student budget and a low student-teacher ratio, its academic performance has declined over time and is generally lower than that of nearby public schools.

The school's standardized test scores are below the district and state averages, with only 30.4% of students proficient or better in English Language Arts and 14.5% proficient or better in Mathematics, compared to district averages of 37.6% and 26.4%, respectively. The school's performance is particularly low for certain student subgroups, such as Special Education students and Low Socio-Economic Status students, who rank in the bottom half of DC middle schools. This suggests the school may not be adequately addressing the needs of these vulnerable populations.

When compared to nearby public schools like MacFarland Middle School, Brookland Middle School, and Stuart-Hobson Middle School, Howard University Middle School of Mathematics and Science PCS generally performs worse on academic measures, despite having higher per-student spending and a lower student-teacher ratio. This indicates the school may not be effectively utilizing its resources to improve student outcomes.

Open Quote The staff and the principle at this school are only concern about one thing there selves. The school tolerates bullying to the point of know return. The staff treat the kids like they on the street they talk slang to them sing rap songs that has foul language. There are a lot of troubled kids at this school that should have been expelled long ago but they will not put them out. They are taking the focus off the smart kids who really want to learn. You have some teachers that get high and share that info with the kids and tell them that it's okay to do so. This school needs to be investigated hard they need all new staff. The name it self holds very high standards you would think it would be a lot better. If you don't want your child to turn into a violent drug addict rap star. Do not send your child here I repeat do not look deep and hard into another school for your child this school is horrible. Close Quote
