Chippens Hill Middle School in Bristol, CT, serves about 545 students in grades 6–8 and is part of the Bristol School District. Despite that district's 1-star rating, Chippens Hill performs better than its district label: it earned 3 stars in 2025–2026 and ranked 128th of 258 Connecticut middle schools, right at the 50th percentile. The school sits in the middle of a broad regional range, outperforming North End Middle School in Waterbury and Eli Terry Junior Middle School in Terryville, but trailing Middle School of Plainville, Northeast Middle School, Joseph A. Depaolo Middle School in Southington, and especially Avon Middle School.

Math is the clearest academic weakness. Only 31.0% of 7th graders were proficient in math, well below the state average of 44.1%, and far behind Northeast Middle School's 41.2% and Middle School of Plainville's 49.4%. Science is a surprising bright spot: 53.4% of 8th graders were proficient in the NGSS science assessment, above both the district and state averages. In fact, 8th graders posted their strongest results overall, with ELA, math, and science all at or above state averages. That said, Chippens Hill trails its same-district counterpart, Northeast Middle School, in nearly every tested subject.
