Summary

Wayne Carle Middle School is a public middle school in Westminster, CO, serving 438 students in grades 6–8 as part of the Jefferson County School District No. R-1, a 4-star district ranked 24th out of 115 in Colorado. The school currently holds a 4-star rating and ranks 133rd out of 469 Colorado middle schools (72nd percentile), a notable rebound from its COVID-impacted ranking in 2020–2021 and a continuation of steady improvement in recent years.

Wayne Carle stands out in several areas. Its 8th-grade science proficiency has consistently exceeded district and state averages — 47.2% in 2025–2026 compared with 42.7% district and 35.4% statewide. The school has maintained a 0.0% dropout rate every reported year, and its chronic absenteeism rate of 26.4% is below the district (26.6%) and state (28.4%) averages, and dramatically better than nearby Shaw Heights Middle School (50.6%), North Arvada Middle School (49.4%), and Silver Hills Middle School (47.8%). The school also earns strong marks for specific student groups: its Gifted and Talented students ranked 8th of 132 schools statewide in 2024–2025, and low-income students ranked in the 77th percentile.

The main area to watch is math, particularly in 7th grade. While 6th-grade math proficiency is strong at 51.5%, 7th-grade math dips to 34.4%, below the district’s 40.6%. Overall math proficiency sits at 43.7%, slightly below the district but above the state. Wayne Carle compares favorably to nearby Mandalay Middle School, outperforming it in ELA, math, and science, but it trails top peers like Oberon Middle School, Westlake Middle School, and Drake Junior High School. With math proficiency jumping from 28.9% in 2022–2023 to 43.7% in 2025–2026, Wayne Carle is clearly on an upward path, and reducing chronic absenteeism — still affecting more than one in four students — could drive further gains.

Open Quote Wasn't a big fan of the principal at this school. He was extremely overbearing, not only to the students, but also towards the teachers. Many of the teachers actually shared their displeasure about how he treated them with their students. Not a healthy environment. Constant issues! Close Quote
