Summary

Falcon Elementary School of Technology is a small PK–5 elementary school in Falcon, Colorado, serving 318 students within El Paso County Colorado School District 49. The school holds a 2-star rating and ranks in the 45th percentile statewide, placing it below its district's strong 71st-percentile performance. Falcon serves the highest share of economically disadvantaged students in its immediate area, with 47.5% of students qualifying for free or reduced lunch—well above nearby schools like Meridian Ranch Elementary School (27.5%) and Woodmen Hills Elementary School (33.0%). Despite this challenge, Falcon's low-income students perform at the 50th percentile statewide, a sign that the school is supporting its most vulnerable learners effectively.

Falcon boasts the lowest student–teacher ratio in the area at 13.4 to 1, yet smaller class sizes have not translated into consistent test scores. Math proficiency has swung from 15.5% to 36.2% in recent years, and science jumped to an extraordinary 57.9% in 2024–2025 before falling back to 33.3% the following year. One of the most striking patterns is a sharp 5th-grade drop-off: 4th graders scored 56.4% in ELA—above both district and state averages—but 5th graders fell to just 25.0%. This cliff suggests a possible transition problem or curriculum misalignment that school leadership should investigate.

There are encouraging bright spots. Female students have surged from the 18th to the 66th percentile statewide over two years, and chronic absenteeism at 27.0% is slightly below the state average. However, it remains nearly 10 points higher than top-performing neighbors like Meridian Ranch (17.6%) and Woodmen Hills (17.9%), making attendance a clear target for improvement. While Falcon's trajectory is mildly positive, it still trails schools like Pikes Peak School Expeditionary Learning and Ridgeview Elementary School in overall performance. With its small classes and improving subgroup trends, Falcon has real potential, but addressing the 5th-grade decline and attendance gaps will be key to building lasting gains.

Open Quote I absolutely loved all the teachers and staff at FES. They were very supportive of my kids, especially my son who has Aspergers (though he wasn't diagnosed until 4 months after we left). Even after we moved to the Springs, I continued to drive them back and forth for a full year, then financially I just couldnt do it anymore. They still beg to go back to FES, and I have considered it more than once. Close Quote
