Summary

Arrowwood Elementary School is a public elementary school in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, serving 398 students in grades PK-6. It is part of the highly-ranked Douglas County School District No. Re 1, which is rated 5 out of 5 stars by SchoolDigger. While Arrowwood's performance has fluctuated over the years, the school generally performs above the state average in CMAS testing, but lags behind the district average in many subject areas and grade levels.

Arrowwood's Hispanic students perform exceptionally well, ranking 6th out of 197 Colorado elementary schools in 2022-2023. However, the school's White students and male students tend to perform below the state average in certain subject areas and grade levels. Additionally, Arrowwood has seen a significant increase in chronic absenteeism, rising from 15.1% in 2021-2022 to 27.7% in 2023-2024, which is higher than the district average. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch at Arrowwood has also increased from 14.99% in 2021-2022 to 21.86% in 2023-2024, indicating a growing population of economically disadvantaged students.

Compared to nearby high-performing schools, such as Bear Canyon Elementary, Platte River Charter Academy, and Heritage Elementary, Arrowwood's performance is generally lower. This suggests the need for targeted interventions to address the achievement gaps and the increasing challenges faced by the school's growing population of economically disadvantaged students.

Open Quote My daughter attended kindergarten at this school and we loved it. We found the front office staff helpful, kind and accommodating, and all teachers we came in contact with were tremendous. The focus in my daughter's classroom was on learning to read and write, and my daughter took tremendous strides in both her reading/writing and her math skills. I was very impressed with her progress this year. Three major downsides, however: 1) the kindergarteners didn't begin gym or art class until after mid-semester; 2) my daughter's classroom had 20 students, three of them special needs, and only one harried full-time teacher -- NO consistent aide to help!; and 3) on bad weather days, instead of recess, the students were plopped down in front of the TV -- and not even an educational program, just some random cartoon. Not cool! Close Quote

Open Quote We are pulling our child from this school. We have been here for 2 years and find that there is not a great deal of resources for advanced learners. There have been 3 principals since we have been there and no one really seems to be on the same page for problem solving. They are quick to label kids and not in positive ways. I would not recommend putting your child here if they need to be academically challenged or if they get bored easily. Close Quote

Open Quote I have a second grader and kindergartener at AWE this year. I have been so impressed by how the teachers go above and beyond for my kids. They have been quick to talk with me regarding concerns or praises for both of my kiddos. With my second grader, this has been consitant all three years he has attended AWE. The families are friendly and there is a feeling of community around school. Close Quote
