Summary

Summit View Elementary School is a PK–6 school in Highlands Ranch, CO, serving 350 students within the highly rated Douglas County School District. The school has historically been one of the top elementary schools in Colorado—ranking 30th out of 921 schools as recently as 2021–22—but its most recent 2025–26 ranking slipped to 161st of 943 schools (83rd percentile, 4 stars). It remains a solid school by statewide standards, but it no longer sits in the top tier of its own neighborhood, where comparable schools like Heritage Elementary and Redstone Elementary rank in the top 30.

Summit View's greatest strength is attendance: its chronic absenteeism rate is just 6.3%, far below the district's 16.6% and the state's 28.4%, and the lowest among 11 nearby schools. Academically, English Language Arts is a relative bright spot at 66.9% proficiency (district: 63.8%; state: 44.7%). Math, however, lags at 55.1%, below the district average of 57.2%. The comparison to Heritage Elementary, just 0.63 miles away with nearly identical demographics (10.1% vs. 10.0% free/reduced lunch), is striking: Heritage posts 77.1% ELA and 73.7% math, versus Summit View's 66.9% and 55.1%—a substantial 18.6-point math gap.

Performance varies notably by grade level. Fourth grade is a bright spot, with ELA at 73.5% and math at 67.6%, and 6th-grade ELA is strong at 73.6%. But 3rd-grade math (53.5% vs. district 62.2%) and 5th-grade math (45.7% vs. district 58.2%) are concerns. Science is also lagging: 54.3% proficiency, well below nearby Northridge Elementary (76.6%), Platte River Charter Academy (76.9%), and Heritage Elementary (72.7%). Between 2024–25 and 2025–26, math proficiency dropped 12.6 points, ELA dropped 8 points, and science dropped 9 points. With excellent attendance and low poverty, Summit View has clear structural advantages—math and science in the middle grades are the most pressing priorities.
